TERRA at FACTORY 2026: Bringing Intelligent Climate Services from Space Closer to Users and Policymakers
11 June 2026 | Strasbourg, France
On 11 June 2026, the TERRA project organised its first dedicated stakeholder workshop, “TERRA Live: Intelligent Climate Services from Space,” in the framework of FACTORY 2026, hosted at the International Space University (ISU) campus in Strasbourg, France, in collaboration with Paddock Academy.
FACTORY 2026 brought together more than 300 participants from startups, SMEs, industry, investment, research and academic communities, providing TERRA with an excellent opportunity to present its vision for transforming Earth Observation and Copernicus data into intelligent climate services that can support environmental monitoring, climate resilience and informed decision-making.
About TERRA’s Workshop
During the workshop, participants were introduced to TERRA’s objectives, technological approach and the role of Artificial Intelligence in turning Earth Observation data into meaningful and actionable information.
Particular attention was given to the project’s three use cases, which address different environmental and climate-related challenges across Europe:
- Coastal water quality monitoring in Greece
- Maritime monitoring and illegal discharge detection in Poland
- Coastal erosion Digital Twins in Scotland
Through the interactive “TERRA Live” session, attendees had the opportunity to explore how the project’s technologies and services can bridge the gap between increasingly rich Earth Observation datasets and the practical information required by end users, public authorities and decision-makers.
Putting TERRA’s services into a policy context
A key element of the workshop was its interactive policy validation exercise. Participants were invited to adopt the perspective of policymakers and consider how TERRA’s services and resulting intelligence could contribute to the implementation and monitoring of relevant European environmental policies and directives, including the Water Framework Directive and the Habitats Directive.
The exercise encouraged participants to look beyond the technological capabilities of Earth Observation and consider an important question at the heart of TERRA: how can advanced environmental data be translated into information that is genuinely useful for policy and decision-making?
This interactive approach also provided the project with valuable stakeholder perspectives that can help guide the further development and validation of its climate services.
Beyond demonstrating TERRA’s technological approach, the workshop created an opportunity to engage directly with stakeholders from different sectors and discuss potential avenues for future collaboration, uptake and knowledge exchange.
Participants were also introduced to TERRA’s wider Earth Observation intelligence approach and directed to the project’s online resources, supporting continued interaction with the project and its results beyond the workshop itself.
Feedback and participant information collected in connection with the workshop were processed through GDPR-compliant procedures, supporting TERRA’s continued stakeholder engagement activities.
Strengthening TERRA’s stakeholder community
TERRA’s participation in FACTORY 2026 represented an important milestone in the project’s communication, dissemination and stakeholder engagement activities. By bringing together technological demonstrations, policy-oriented discussion and direct interaction with a diverse audience, the workshop helped raise awareness of TERRA while creating opportunities for feedback and future collaboration.
As TERRA’s demonstrators continue to develop, insights gathered through activities such as TERRA Live will contribute to ensuring that the project’s solutions respond not only to technological challenges, but also to the real needs of users, authorities and decision-makers working towards greater climate resilience across Europe.
