TERRA Objectives

OBJECTIVE 1

Enhancing Copernicus Services through Innovative Solutions

TERRA leverages the Copernicus program to develop six novel services and three product chains, which are seamlessly integrated into the TERRA platform. This comprehensive solution is designed to enhance the capabilities of the Copernicus Emergency Management and Climate Change services.

  • Services: TERRA develops advanced software algorithms, methodologies, and AI-driven analysis techniques that extend beyond current processing capabilities.
  • Product Chains: These integrate multiple services into functional solutions for critical environmental challenges, such as:
    • Water contamination monitoring in coastal areas
    • Pollution detection in harbors
    • Coastal monitoring and flood prediction
  • TERRA Platform: A scalable, resilient, and reusable framework that facilitates data exchange and knowledge-sharing between Copernicus repositories and TERRA services. It enables AI-powered insights, making Copernicus DIAS data more actionable for multiple sectors.
OBJECTIVE 2

Integration of AI, Digital Twins, and Data Fusion techniques in the provided services

TERRA incorporates cutting-edge AI, data fusion, Digital Twins (DT), and visualization techniques to enhance Copernicus services and extract actionable insights.

TERRA envisions the creation of three (3) product chains that combine Copernicus services, AI models, data visualisation modules, forecasting mechanisms, DT-based data generative and data processing functionalities.

  • Data Fusion Mechanisms: Transform Copernicus service data into harmonized formats for seamless integration with AI models and forecasting tools.
  • AI-Driven Analytics: Machine learning models analyze satellite imagery and geospatial data, overcoming challenges such as incomplete or noisy datasets.
  • Digital Twins: Virtual replicas of real-world environments, enabling predictive modeling, risk assessment, and policy recommendations.
  • Interactive Visualization Module: Provides intuitive, user-friendly data maps for policymakers, emergency responders, and environmental stakeholders.
OBJECTIVE 3

Evaluate the quality of the envisioned services and demonstrate their impact through Real-World Use Cases

TERRA validates its services through three demonstrators in real-world settings

  • Water Pollution Monitoring: Assessing contamination levels in the Sperchios River, Greece.
  • Illegal Activity Detection: Identifying environmental violations in harbor areas.
  • Coastal Change Monitoring: Utilizing Digital Twins for satellite-based coastal flood prediction and shoreline analysis.
OBJECTIVE 4

Establishing Sustainable Business Models

TERRA identifies economic opportunities and market pathways for sustainable service deployment

  • Market Analysis: Evaluating economic feasibility and potential stakeholders.
  • Scalability & Replicability: Demonstrating how TERRA services can expand across industries and sectors.
  • Commercialization Strategy: Generating value for Copernicus data while fostering interdisciplinary innovation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with Copernicus entrusted entities and EU policymakers to ensure long-term impact.
OBJECTIVE 5

Outreach & Stakeholder Engagement

TERRA implements a multi-faceted dissemination strategy to maximize visibility, foster collaboration, and ensure the adoption of its innovations.

  • Online Presence: Website, social media, and digital campaigns.
  • Industry & Research Events: Continuous participation in relevant conferences and forums.
  • Policy Recommendations: Providing best practices and guidelines for AI and Copernicus service adoption.
