TERRA Kick Off

TERRA Kicks Off: Advancing Water and Coastal Management with AI and Copernicus Services

On January 15, 2025, the TERRA project officially launched with its kick-off meeting at the University of Thessaly in Lamia, Greece. This event brought together nine European partners from academia, research, and industry to set the foundation for the project’s ambitious goals in water and coastal management.

Funded under the Horizon Europe Programme, TERRA aims to develop AI-powered tools, Digital Twin technology, and Copernicus services to improve monitoring, forecasting, and decision-making for water-related challenges such as pollution, flooding, and coastal erosion.

Kick-Off Meeting Highlights

The meeting featured key discussions on the project’s structure, objectives, and upcoming activities. Partners introduced their contributions across six Work Packages (WPs), covering topics such as:

  1. Hydrological monitoring & flood prediction
  2. Water contamination detection
  3. Coastal erosion assessment
  4. Demonstration activities in real-world environments

A significant focus was also placed on the three demonstration use cases:

  • Water Contamination Monitoring in coastal areas of Fthiotida, Greece.
  • Illegal Activity Detection in the Port of Gdansk, Poland.
  • Coastal Change Monitoring in Scotland using Digital Twin technology.

With these efforts, TERRA is set to support policymakers, industries, and local communities in making informed, data-driven decisions to enhance climate resilience and sustainability.
